Game rules
Teach a partner something you're good at (e.g. magic tricks, make-up arts, beatboxing, decoupage, drawing a character, and things like these)! Show them the trick of it, describe how you do it as clearly as possible, and see if they want to try it.
Try the game yourself!
How effective you were in explaining to the other person what you are good at? Think about what you might need to change in your explanation to make it easier for the other person to understand!
Tell us in the comments at the bottom of the page!
What can you learn from this game?
It's not uncommon that you feel you have said something very clearly to the other person, yet they don't understand or there is a misunderstanding between you. This is especially true when we are very confident about something, if what we want to communicate is clear to us, something fundamental. However, with practice (e.g. clarifying questions, asking back, using summaries), we can become more skilful at this too!
Do you want to improve? Keep playing, at other times, in other places, with other people!
Choose people who - for some reason - are a little harder to find common grounds with (e.g. someone much younger/older than you; someone who’s native in a second language you study, etc.) and try the game with them, too! Ask your partner to teach you something as well and give each other feedback on what it was that helped you understand the other's explanation!
