Game rules
Pick a conversation partner and start talking to each other. Watch out! There's one rule to keep! Whatever you are talking about, neither of you can say the following four words: BLACK, WHITE, YES, NO. Try to frame the conversation in a way that makes it difficult for your partner. Who says the forbidden words first?
Try the game yourself!
How freely could you talk while having to watch out for the forbidden words? How much did this affect the conversation overall?
Tell us in the comments at the bottom of the page!
What can you learn from this game?
There are situations where we cannot communicate completely freely (e.g. we cannot swear in front of children or at work, we cannot talk about a surprise party). Such situations can be quite stressful, as we focus part of our attention on avoiding saying certain things. This also affects the conversation as a whole. How do you react in such situations? It can be interesting to observe yourself in this situation too!
Do you want to improve? Keep playing, at other times, in other places, with other people!
Play the game in as large a group as possible! Expand the list of forbidden words with other words that are often used in conversations! Choose a partner with whom you can play the game regularly! Time how long you manage to avoid saying the forbidden words! Try to beat your own record day by day! How far could you get?
